Mat Rat

Ah, the infamous mat rat. It’s a term that’s often thrown around in wrestling and BJJ circles. But what does it actually mean? Well, let me break it down for you.

In wrestling and BJJ, a mat rat is someone who spends an inordinate amount of time on the mats. They’re the ones who show up early to practice, stay late, and even come in on weekends. They’re obsessed with the sport and can’t get enough of it.

Mat rats are the ones who are always asking for extra drills, rolling partners, and opportunities to compete. They’re the ones who have sweat stains on their singlets or gi’s from practicing so much. And they’re the ones who can recite every move and technique from memory.

In short, mat rats are the ultimate enthusiasts of wrestling and BJJ. They eat, sleep, and breathe the sport. And while some people might think they’re a bit crazy, there’s no denying their passion and dedication.

So if you happen to come across a mat rat in wrestling or BJJ, just know that they’re not weirdos. They’re just really, really into the sport. And who knows, maybe if you spend enough time on the mats, you’ll become a mat rat too. Just remember to wash your gear. Nobody likes a stinky rat.
