Greetings young Padawan and fellow Primate,
You’ve heard the famous line from Master Yoda: “Do or do not, there is no try.” It’s a powerful message that has inspired many Jedi, and I can explain its meaning to you.
When Yoda says “there is no try,” he means that we should approach every task with a clear and focused mind. Trying implies that we’re not fully committed to the task at hand. It’s like dipping your toe in the water, instead of diving in headfirst.
Rolling, in BJJ terms, means taking action without hesitation. It means committing fully to the technique, the movement, or the submission. You either do it, or you don’t. There’s no middle ground.
When we “try,” we leave room for doubt and uncertainty. We’re not fully committed to the outcome, and we’re not giving our best effort. But when we “roll,” we’re fully present in the moment, and we’re giving it our all.
So, when Master Yoda says “roll or roll not,” he’s telling us to take action with full commitment and without hesitation. To approach every task with focus, determination, and clarity of purpose.
Remember, young Padawan, the path of the Jedi requires discipline, perseverance, and courage. Keep training, keep learning, and always strive to be your best self.
May the Force be with you.
Best regards,
Mikey From Gorilla
